White Shaker Kitchen with Character

The Scope
The room reads white and bright, but the details do the work. Shaker cabinets carry matte-black hardware; a farmhouse apron sink faces the window; the range wall lifts into a hand-crafted wood hood over a patterned encaustic tile inset.
The island shifts the palette — warm natural wood against the white — and the marble-inlay floor pulls the whole room together with pattern the eye keeps returning to.
A tucked wine bar with brown herringbone tile and two glass-fronted wine fridges sits in the corner, quiet until you notice it. It is out of the main working run, so it adds storage without taking prep space away from the counters.
The range wall is where most of the detail sits. The wood hood is built rather than bought, and the encaustic tile inset behind the range is framed by plain subway tile on the rest of the wall — so the pattern reads as a deliberate panel rather than as a busy backsplash.
Hardware is matte black throughout, on both the shaker doors and the drawer fronts, which keeps a consistent dark line against the white cabinetry and picks up the iron of the lantern pendants above the island.
The floor is a marble-inlay pattern that runs under the whole room. It is the one element that touches everything — island, perimeter run, wine bar corner — and it is what stops the white cabinetry and white tile from reading as plain.
The last two photographs are from during the build rather than after it: the range wall stripped back before the hood, tile and counters went on, and the window frame with the plywood sub-frame in place for the apron sink.
