Interior Design in Manhattan Beach
Serving 90266 and Hermosa Beach, El Segundo, Redondo Beach
Interior design does more in a small house than a large one, because in a small house nothing is incidental. In Manhattan Beach the work is usually about making a compact plan feel calm and open rather than about filling it.
Making a small house feel generous
Continuity beats variety
In a compact plan, running the same floor, the same tone and the same detailing through the shared spaces makes the house read as larger. Changing material at every doorway does the opposite.
Storage is a design problem
Small houses are only calm if there is somewhere for things to go. Built-in storage designed with the room rather than added to it afterwards is what keeps a compact interior from filling up again within a year.
Light from one side
Many houses here take their best light from a single aspect. Placing the rooms people use in the day where that light lands, and being willing to give the darker side to storage and service space, does more for how a compact house feels than any finish choice.
Furniture has to fit the stairs
In a tall, narrow house the route in is a genuine constraint on what can be bought. Checking that a sofa can physically reach the room it was chosen for is a boring step that saves an expensive one.
