Kitchen Remodeling in Pasadena

A Pasadena kitchen is nearly always the room the house was never designed to have. Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Colonial Revivals put cooking at the back, behind a door, sized for someone else's century — and the whole value of the project is in making that room the centre of the house without making the rest of the house look newer than it is. We have finished and published a whole-home remodel in Pasadena, so the green-tile kitchen at the heart of it is something you can look at rather than imagine.
Real projects. Real prices.
73 finished remodels published with their final price — nothing hidden.
What 27 finished LA kitchens actually cost: a median of $50k, in a range of $23k–$84k. Real final prices from our own job records, not estimates.
$34,800 White uppers over warm grey shaker lowers, white quartz, and a stainless chimney hood.
$41,000 Espresso shaker cabinetry, light quartz counters and a linear glass mosaic backsplash.
$50,000 Navy shaker lowers under white uppers, with a slate-tone tile backsplash and a wood ledge shelf.
$72,000 Honey-oak cabinetry replaced with white shaker fronts and a marble-look quartz island.
$72,000 White shaker cabinetry against a deep teal backsplash, with an island under a stainless hood.
$84,000 Warm grey shaker cabinetry with quartz counters, plus floating vanities in dark stone tile.
Kitchens in a city that protects its architecture
The back-of-house kitchen, and what to do with it
Pre-war plans separated cooking from living deliberately, which is why almost every brief here starts with one wall. Which wall, how it is carried, and what the opening does to the rooms either side of it is the design question — and it is worth more thought than the cabinet catalogue.
Original joinery is a material, not an obstacle
A 1910s house often holds casework, glass and hardware nobody can buy now. The honest approach is selective: keep what carries the character of the room, replace what was only ever cheap, and let the new work be new rather than a pastiche of the old.
Two reviews, and only one of them is structural
Plan check runs through the city's own Building & Safety Division inside the Planning & Community Development Department. A landmark property, or one inside a landmark district, also meets the design and historic-preservation side. A kitchen that stays behind the existing elevations usually meets only the first; a kitchen that wants a new window meets both.
Where the money actually goes
In this housing stock the invisible half of the budget is real: knob-and-tube remnants, undersized service, galvanised supply, and framing that has been altered twice already. We survey it before we price it, because a kitchen quoted without opening a wall in a hundred-year-old house is a guess wearing a number.
