Glendale interiors cannot be approached with one method, because the rooms are not one kind of room. A period-revival house arrives with plaster, arches and a colour logic; a post-war bungalow arrives as a modest rectangle; a hillside house arrives with a view that should be running the whole scheme and often is not.
Real projects. Real prices.
73 finished remodels published with their final price — nothing hidden.
What our finished LA work actually cost: 27 kitchens ran $23k–$84k, median $50k; 28 bathrooms $28k–$105k, median $38k; 17 whole-home remodels $36k–$440k, median $150k. Real final prices from our own job records, not estimates.
$33,000 A backlit mirror over a double vanity, with stone-look tile and matte black fittings throughout.
$35,000 A patterned encaustic-look floor, a sage shaker vanity and a glass shower with a tiled bench.
$40,000 White shaker cabinetry and brass pulls around a sage-green island under a beaded chandelier.
$75,000 Rift-oak flat-panel cabinetry with white uppers, a quartz island and a fluted tile backsplash.
$238,000 A walnut-fronted quartz island, arched openings, and sage-green stacked tile baths.
$275,000 A broad quartz island, a curved staircase with iron balusters, marble-look baths.
Interiors for three kinds of room
Period rooms already have an argument
Arched openings, original plaster and existing joinery give a scheme its starting point. Working from what is in the room produces something that looks inevitable; importing a look produces something that looks imported.
In a hillside house, the view is the scheme
Where a room looks at the Verdugos, everything else — seating, lighting, the position of the working surfaces — should be organised around that. It is the most valuable thing in the room and it is regularly designed past.
Drawn by the people who build it
We design and we build, so nothing is specified that cannot be installed in the room it was drawn for. In a plastered 1920s house with a century of movement in it, that matters more than it sounds.
