A period-revival house gives an interior designer more to work with than almost anything built since: real plaster, proper proportions, panelled and moulded rooms, and a hierarchy that tells you which space is meant to matter. The mistake here is not being too bold. It is ignoring what the house already says and then wondering why the scheme feels borrowed.
Real projects. Real prices.
73 finished remodels published with their final price — nothing hidden.
What our finished LA work actually cost: 27 kitchens ran $23k–$84k, median $50k; 28 bathrooms $28k–$105k, median $38k; 17 whole-home remodels $36k–$440k, median $150k. Real final prices from our own job records, not estimates.
$25,000 White shaker cabinetry, white subway tile, and light quartz counters.
$30,000 A deep navy wall over textured white tile, with a floating walnut vanity and matte black fittings.
$45,000 Rust and blue slate-tone tile over a pebble mosaic shower floor, with bronze fittings.
$72,000 Honey-oak cabinetry replaced with white shaker fronts and a marble-look quartz island.
$150,000 A cobalt glass-tile backsplash with marble-look slab baths in brushed brass.
$440,000 Stone-look tile bathrooms with freestanding tubs, under an exposed beam ceiling.
Interiors for period-revival rooms
The room already has a grammar
Mouldings, panel heights and window proportions set a rhythm that furniture, joinery and lighting can either follow or fight. Following it does not mean being historical — it means the new work sits in the room rather than on top of it.
Formal rooms, informal lives
These plans separate living, dining and reception in a way nobody now uses literally. The interesting work is making those rooms serve current life without erasing the distinction that gives the house its character.
Deep plans need layered light
Windows in these houses are modest and the plans are deep, so daylight does not reach the middle. Artificial light placed for what people actually do in each room does more here than any change of paint colour.
Specified by the people who build it
We draw and we build, which quietly removes the category of decision that looks right on a board and cannot be installed cleanly against a hundred-year-old plaster wall.
